Net Neutrality |
Corporate greed once again threatens Net Neutrality. You might have seen the #SaveTheInternet hashtag on twitter, and Reddit covered with articles encouraging the site’s users to take action. The internet as it stands really is at risk. Net neutrality prevents internet service providers from favoring certain sites over others by intentionally slowing down or speeding user access, and blocking content. The FCC chair is pushing to K*ll net neutrality provisions, and it is a dream come true for corporations. This would mean the FCC would have almost no oversight authority over broadband providers like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T. 90% of people in the United States use the internet, and all of them will be affected. On Friday, we will learn about the dangerous affects of Net Neutrality being repealed, and why it is crucial for us to fight back.

Slave Auctions in Libya |
In recent weeks, the corporate media has sensationalized another tragedy: chattel slavery in Libya. Dark-skinned Libyan migrants and sub-Saharan African workers are being sold in slave markets in Libya today for as little as $400, and many in the West are appalled by the news of the re-introduction of slavery in 21st century. But what many of us don't realize is that lynchings and slave auctions have been taking place in Libya since 2012. Why is this happening in an African nation where dark-skinned Libyans and African migrants once enjoyed legal civil rights and protections as other Libyans? How has an African nation that had commendable social welfare programs and the highest Human Development Index (HDI) in all of Africa until the year 2011 been reduced to its current state? Who should be held responsible for the state of affairs in Libya today? That is a question that we cannot rely on the corporate media that itself played a role in the destruction of Libya to answer. These are the primary questions we aim to address this Friday!

Light food and drinks will be provided. The space has a gender neutral restroom, and is wheel-chair accessible.
